I'm very glad I've had more time to share my emails this year. Thank you for sharing your kind feedback. If you’ve found value in our updates, we’d love for you to pass them along to friends or neighbors who might benefit, too. Please also follow us on Social Media.

This time of year always brings a steady stream of gardeners through our doors, seeking answers to what’s troubling their landscapes. Patterns start to emerge—trends shaped by this season’s weather—and we’re always eager to share what we’ve learned. It’s a privilege to help identify problems and offer solutions. Doing so sharpens our skills as horticulturalists.

If you’re stopping by for guidance, bring along a few photos or, even better, samples of the affected plants. Close-ups of damaged areas are helpful, but a photo of the entire plant tells us even more about its overall vitality.

Right now, the main issues we’re seeing are aphids and rabbits. As we pass the Summer Solstice, we anticipate an uptick in Japanese Beetles and turf-related stress—especially from fungal disease and grub activity. With all the rainfall we’ve had, it’s been tougher to spot grub damage since turf can stay green or re-root in undamaged patches, masking the signs. Based on long-term observation, we expect this to shift as drier weeks set in.

It’s important to remember that insects are opportunists. They’re drawn to stressed plants by natural signals—meaning their presence is often a symptom, not a cause. The most effective approach to preventing pests is to build your plants' strength and vigor through consistent care.

"A tree is known by its fruit; a man by his deeds. A good deed is never lost; he that sows courtesy reaps friendship; and he who plants kindness, gathers love."

You may have noticed that Flower Club Rewards are back—and we’re excited to share that you can once again redeem your credits at your convenience.

Earlier this year, we temporarily paused the program to address some compliance requirements, and we’re grateful for your patience during that time. With those updates now complete, we’re looking forward to offering even more meaningful ways to thank our loyal Flower Club Members.

We truly appreciate your continued support and look forward to helping you get the most out of your membership.

Decker's will begin scheduling workshops and seminars in August and September. Keeping your Membership active will allow us to inform you of these events as they get scheduled. 4th of July Weekend is a perfect time to redeem your discounts.

Summer at Decker’s Nursery Is All About Color—and We’re Here to Help You Find Yours! 🌸☀️

Most of you know our summer annuals keep the color coming straight through September—but did you know there are shrubs and perennials that offer even more summer impact? Some bring brilliant blooms, others a wonderful fragrance… and yes, we’ll show you that one when you stop by the nursery.

🌿 Shrubs That Pop in Summer:

  • Clethra (Sweetpepperbush): Blooms July through August, with beautiful fragrance in late summer.
  • St. Johnswort: Blooms in June, then produces ornamental berries all summer long. Could be fragrant, too!
  • Vitex (Chaste Tree): Large shrub with bold blue flowers—this one always gets people asking, “What’s that stunning blue plant?”
  • Crapemyrtle ‘Pocomoke’: A compact shrub with rich summer color—yes, Crapemyrtle can be a shrub!
  • Hydrangeas: A summer favorite, but be sure to choose the right type for your light and soil conditions.

🌼 Favorite Summer Perennials (Many Are Deer Resistant):

  • Ligularia: A must-have for shady gardens, with dramatic yellow spiked blooms in July and August.
  • Astilbe & Aruncus: Beautiful blooms in June and July—Aruncus is a personal favorite to wait for each season.
  • Native standouts: Penstemon, Monarda, Lobelia (Cardinal Flower)—popular, pollinator-friendly, and always in our weekly displays.

We’re always happy to help you find the right plant for your space—and to help you bring your garden vision to life. Whether you're planting, planning, or just here to be inspired, we can’t wait to see you.

Let’s make some color together this summer! 🌺🌻🦋

This Summer I look forward to seeing you in the garden.
